Edinburgh International Festival

The Edinburgh International Festival was founded in 1947 to enliven and enrich the cultural life of Europe, Britain and Scotland and ‘provide a platform for the flowering of the human spirit’.

One of the most important cultural celebrations in the world, the Festival invites major international artists and companies to present a thrilling programme of classical music, opera, theatre and dance over three weeks every August and early September.

Over the years a number of other festivals have grown up and in July 1999 the Edinburgh International Festival opened The Hub, its first permanent home.
